Two New Awards for Microgaming

Microgaming has won countless industry awards since it powered the world’s first true online casino back in 1994 and a further two awards were added to this impressive collection on Monday 28th September, 2015, at the Global Gaming Awards. This is now an annual event which recently celebrated its second year.

This prestigious award ceremony was held in Las Vegas at the Venetian Palazzo Congress Center and KPMG Gibraltar officiated to ensure complete transparency in the voting process. A panel of 50 expert judges from various leading gaming industries each cast their vote to decide the worthy winners from both the online and offline gaming industries.

As mentioned, Microgaming walked away with two awards. One of these awards was the Digital Gaming Innovation of the year award and this was awarded to Microgaming because of their pioneering work in the field of Virtual Reality and Wearable Technology. Microgaming produced VR Roulette in an effort to study the immersive potential of 3D technology in the gaming industry. This game utilises the Oculus Rift DK 2 headset with Leap Motion 3D Controller.

This technology manages to track the movements from the player who is wearing a special headset and is then able to project this information to a virtual casino environment in cyberspace. Microgaming was also honoured for its ground-breaking Jurassic Park online pokie which first arrived in Australian online casinos in August 2014. This famous branded pokie from Microgaming has impressive 3D rendered graphics and it was the very first online pokie to showcase Parallax Scrolling effects.

“We are so proud to win not one but two awards at this highly prestigious and credible award ceremony! Jurassic Park™ is an incredible game and the fact that the experience is just as impressive on mobile as it is online really does blow people away. But to win an award for innovation is particularly close to my heart as we have always worked so hard to stay several steps ahead of the industry, predicting trends and ensuring that our content works on emerging technology,” said the Microgaming CEO, Roger Raatgever.

This is the second year in a row that Microgaming has won the Digital Product of the Year award. The Runner Up in this category this year was Playtech and last year the Runner Up was NetEnt.
