How to Play Craps

How to Play Craps

You first make your bets by placing the chips on the appropriate location on the craps layout displayed on the screen. There are different designated areas for different bets. Some of the best craps bets are discussed later in the section. After the bets are placed two dice are rolled across the craps table. The outcome is determined by the total of the numbers displayed on the face of the dice. Certain craps bets would either win or lose immediately based on the total rolled. The losing bets will be removed from the layout and the winning bets will be paid out. Other bets and carried forward till specified totals are rolled. The first roll of the dice in a new session in online craps is called a come out roll. If the number rolled is one of 2, 3, 7, 11 or 12 then the session ends. If any other number is rolled then the session continues and that number is referred to as the point.

The Pass Line is the first bet that you should understand. It has to be wagered before the come out roll. The Pass Line bet immediately wins if the come out roll is 7 or 11 and loses if the come out roll is 2, 3 or 12. In any other case, the number rolled becomes the point. The dice are rolled again till one of the following occurs. If the point is rolled again before 7 then the Pass Line bet wins. If 7 is rolled before the point then the Pass Line bet loses. The bet pays even money and has a house edge of 1.4%.

The Field Bet can be placed before any roll. The chips are placed in the field box which is marked out on the layout. It has the numbers 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 and 12 listed in a row. The numbers 2 and 12 are circled. If any of these numbers is the total on the dice then you win. You lose for any other total. The numbers 3, 4, 9, 10 and 11 pay out at even money. The numbers 2 and 12 pay out at 2 to 1. In some online casinos either 2 or 12 pays out at 3 to 1. In this case the house edge is 2.7%.

Some of the other bets worth considering in online craps are Come and Place.

Microgaming Craps

Microgaming Craps

The online craps variant at Microgaming Australian casinos is called Vegas Craps. It is listed under table games. The screen displays the right hand side of the land casino craps table. All the different bet areas are clearly demarcated on the layout. You first choose your chip denomination. Then you click on the required bet area on the layout to add a bet of that denomination. You can keep on adding bets by repeating this procedure. Bets can be removed by clicking the Undo button. The minimum amount for any bet is AU$1 and the maximum amount for any bet is AU$100. In addition there is a limit of AU$100 on the total amount that you can bet at any time. If you try and place a wager higher than the limit, only the maximum amount permitted will be placed. If your combined bet exceeds the maximum limit then the roll button gets disabled. The payouts of all bets that pay more than even money are displayed on the layout. Both 2 and 12 in the Field Bet pay only 2 to 1. The free odds on the Pass Line and Come bets are limited to 1x the original wager.

Playtech Craps

Playtech Craps

For the Pass Line bet the maximum amount is AU$50. The higher paying bets have lower maximum amounts. In addition there is a limit of AU$100 on the total amount that you can bet at any time. If you try and place a wager higher than the limit, a warning message giving the maximum amount pops up on the screen. The payouts of most bets that pay more than even money are displayed on the layout. The payouts for Place bets are not displayed. Both 2 and 12 in the Field Bet pay only 2 to 1. The free odds on the Pass Line and Come bets are limited to 3x the original wager. This is the biggest advantage that Playtech craps offers over Microgaming craps.
